Climate and Disaster Resilience (CDR)

 

Climate and Disaster Resilience (CDR) Program is one of the core program areas of the Center for Risk and Resilience (C2R). This program deals with multifaceted technical services and actions for risk reduction, adaptation, transformation, and building resilience for a sustainable future. This program undertakes a host of activities stated below and grows in an inclusive manner. CDR is a cutting-edge program of our institution where extensive experiences, professional resources, and partner networks are catalyzed from the center. CDR program also collaborates with the other programs of the center and its partners to implement projects and services globally.

 

C2Rs expert pool has extensive experience working with the National Meteorological and Hydrological (NMHSs), National Disaster Management Organizations (NDMOs), Climate Change Departments, and other related bodies globally.

Below are some of the areas where C2R's expert pool has extensive experience working with dedicated tools, approaches, proven models, processes, and applications that enable the services of CDR:

• Hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessments

• Climate impact assessments

• Weather and Climate Services

• Weather and Climate modeling  (i.e., for short-range forecast, medium-range, long-range, and decadal range) 

• Weather forecasting and predictions using Numeric Weather Prediction (NWP) models

• Water resources, hydro-dynamic, hydraulic modeling 

• Climate extremes, compound events, cascading impact analysis

• Climate & disaster-resilience program designing, redesigning, strategy development

• Climate & disaster-related project implementation

• Program evaluation, impact assessment, M&E framework development

• Climate change adaptation (CCA), climate risk management (CRM), climate resilience (CR) programming and implementation initiatives 

• National/sub-national/regional climate change-related policy and planning (e.g. NAPs, NDCs, Resilience planning, climate financing plan, SDG plans)

• National/sub-national/regional climate disaster and humanitarian actions related planning (e.g. Disaster Management Plan, Resilience planning)

• Community actions and projects include community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR), community-based adaptation (CBAs), community-resilience projects, etc. 

• End-to-end multi-hazard early warning systems, anticipatory actions, etc. 

• Climate mitigation initiatives (e.g. NDC inventory, energy accounting, REDD++, ADMIT)

• Alternative energy solutions, green growth, and a host of related solutions

• System-specific climate-disaster resilience programming and action (e.g. for coastal, hills systems, transboundary, urban, and other systems)

• Ecosystem-based adaptation (EBA) and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS)

• Integrated Coastal Management (e.g. ICM, ICZM, EPA, etc.)  

• Disaster and climate mainstreaming and integration

• Support private sector and SMAs in DRR and CCA integration 

• Climate and disaster risk financing

• Pilot projects in any relevant areas 

• Global/regional networking & advocacy (e.g. AMCDRR, GPDRR, UNFCCC-COP, WSSD, CBA, CBD-COP, Meteorological Technology WorldExpo & other conferences, events, network workshops, and knowledge-sharing events in a dynamic manner)

• Training and capacity building in climate and disaster resilience (in collaboration with C2Rs TRP, SID, TIP, and others)
